Obituary for Carroll Edwin (Ed) Reeves

Carroll Edwin (Ed) Reeves, Jr. of Greenville, S.C. passed away Feb. 5, 2020.  

Ed was born in Allendale, S.C. Nov. 9, 1936. He was the son of the late Judge Carroll E. Reeves and Virgie Keaton Reeves and grandson of the late Robert Frances Reeves and his wife Annie Allen of Allendale and Robert Sloan Keaton and his wife Florra Wright of Anderson SC  and brother of Robert Benjamin Reeves (wife Trudie) of Bamberg, S.C., Charles K. Reeves (deceased), and Virginia Ann Catalano of Greenville. He married Nancy Hubright of Allendale who passed away in 2009. Surviving are Ed’s stepsons Russell Hubright of Chapin, S.C. and Jeff Hubright of Atlanta, Ga.

In his youth Ed delivered the Columbia Record newspaper and for his service was recognized by then Gov. Strom Thurmond. Following graduation from high school in 1954 he attended the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill for three years and then served for two years in the U.S. Army stationed in Seattle, Washington before being honorably discharged. Ed was employed by the U.S. Post Office in Atlanta where he worked in the Inspection Personnel Department for thirty years.  

As a member of the First Methodist Church in Conyers, Ga. Ed displayed a love for music and served as a choir member and pianist for special occasions. He studied piano in Allendale under Frances Chavous and played Gershwin’s Rhapsody in Blue for his senior recital. Ed entertained friends by playing Broadway show tunes by ear. He also played the saxophone.  

Graveside services will be held Friday, Feb. 7 at 2 p.m. in Allendale’s Swallow Savannah Cemetery with the Rev. George Hudson officiating. Visitation will follow at the cemetery.
