Obituary for Joan Waggoner Guy

Joan Waggoner Guy passed away peacefully surrounded by family and friends as they toasted to her life and all of her love on 8-22-2020. Joan was born 10-16-53 in Fairfax, S.C. to Louise and Gordon Johns as their youngest and only daughter. She was a lover of life and encouraging people to have no fear through her own battles with cancer.  Her donations and participation in many fundraisers and specifically felt a connection to Relay forLife, Lexington Medical Center’s breast cancer events ,specifically Women’s Night Out, and Teal Divas.  Joan gave over 30 years of her short life to helping others as a nurse in Texas and South Carolina.  A USC Alumni and huge “Gamecock Fan” with many specialty tailgate dishes she attended all home games for many years. Growing up in the Bethel Community she stayed in touch with her childhood friends throughout her life. The beach was her favorite place to go among her many travels and to see her friends Karen, Donna and Christy.  Joan supported family with special gifts and spending time on vacations, holidays and birthdays. Family re-unions with the Platts and Johns families were seldom missed by Joan.  She is survived by Cynthia Waggoner (daughter), Dennis Johns (brother) and family, Dale Johns ( brother) and family.Special relatives Annie Mae Turner, EP Johns and Grady Buddy Johns were all a huge part in growing up in a loving family as brothers and sisters.  Joan, also fondly known as Momma Joanor Crazy Aunt Joan , will be sorely missed by her many friends who cared for and had the opportunity to love her. Her final wishes for donation of her body for medical research is being honored with Life Celebrations being planned in the upcoming weeks. Keith Smith Funeral home is assisting. There will be a small private family service at St. Alban’s Episcopal Church.
