Obituary for Robert Tyler Davis

ALLENDALE, SC -             Robert Tyler Davis, 33, of Allendale, SC, passed away on April 29, 2020. Tyler was born in Orangeburg, SC , on March 12, 1987, to Ronald Parnell Davis and Janice Chappell Davis. Tyler was a member of Hagood Avenue Baptist Church in Barnwell, SC.   Tyler was an avid sports fan and grew up playing football and baseball in the Barnwell City Parks and Recreation Department programs. GO WOLF PACK!   He played on the Barnwell High School J.V. and Varsity Warhorse baseball teams and played on the American Legion Orangeburg Post 4 baseball team.   He was an avid Carolina Gamecocks, Pittsburgh Steelers and Atlanta Braves fan and was our “ go to guy” for stats on team trades, player drafts and for game times and channels to watch games. Tyler enjoyed his days watching sports, searching for Sasquatch, daily chat/text sessions with his group of childhood friends, talks with his mom, dad, brother, sister, and his Memama and playing with his therapy dog, Roscoe, his English Bulldog. Tyler was known for his quick wit, one liners, and of his shouting “shenigans” and “you’re killing me smalls” while watching his favorite teams.               Tyler was a 2005 graduate of Barnwell High School. He attended Erskine College in Due West, SC, where he played first base for the Flying Fleet baseball team and then in 2007, transferred to Lenoir Rhyne University in Hickory, NC, where he played first base for the Bears baseball team until he was diagnosed with Myelofibrosis in 2008. Tyler received his Bone Marrow Transplant at Wake Forest Baptist Medical Center in Winston-Salem, NC, on December 12, 2008, his “new birthday”. Tyler continued his treatment and care with the physicians in the BMT Unit and Pulmonology Department at Wake Forest Baptist Center for the past twelve (12) years.            Through out Tyler’s treatment, he continued his education and received his Bachelor’s Degree in Business from the University of South Carolina and his Master’s Degree in Sports Management from Georgia Southern University. Tyler completed a summer internship with the Myrtle Beach Pelican baseball team in 2011.            Tyler is survived by his father, Ronald P. Davis (Brenda Colley) of Olar, SC; his mother, Janice E. Chappell (William Brant) of Allendale, SC;   brother, Ronnie Davis, Jr. (Megan) of Clayton, NC; sister, Callie Davis (Kevin Faile) of Darlington, SC; niece, Hailey Morgan Davis, of Barrington, NH; maternal grandmother, Mary W. Chappell of Allendale, SC; aunts, Mary Christina Snipes (David) of Summerville, SC; Jill Chappell-Fail (Raymond) of Swansea, SC; Jeanie Gour (David) of Myrtle Beach, SC; cousins, Taylor Jarvis, Justice Snipes, Tori Snipes, Phillip Fail, Jordan Gour and Lindsay Gour.             Tyler was predeceased by his maternal grandfather, E. Burney Chappell, Jr.; paternal grandparents, James M. Davis and Mary M. (Toby) Williamson.             In lieu of flowers, gifts in memory of Tyler may be made by making checks out to Barnwell School District 45 and designated for Robert Tyler Davis Memorial Baseball Fund, and mailed to Barnwell School District 45, 770 Hagood Avenue, Barnwell, SC 29812 or by making checks out to Wake Forest Baptist Medical Center, and mailed to P.O. Box 571021, Winston-Salem, NC 27157-1021.
